Before and After - Spring Mixed Media Painting in Process

FreedomBeforeAfterMay2015DChaneyThis painting is entitled 'Freedom' (60" x 40" x 1.5") I'm not sure if she's completely done yet, but she's getting there. I thought it would be fun for you to see the evolution of her. This spring I am working a lot with collage with a goal to make it fun, fun, fun.  I recently picked up some wall paper and am excited to be using that next time I am in the studio.

Flash from the past - Ron Mulvey

RonMulveySlocanOver the weekend I received (with great surprise) a wonderful encouraging email from my very first art teacher, Ron Mulvey with whom I had taken my first acrylic painting class over fifteen years ago now, when I lived in Nelson, British Columbia. Oddly enough I still have a few of the paintings I worked on in his class. I remember Ron saying that one of the most important things in making a good painting was choosing quality paints. Here's what he wrote to me; "Love your work Deb and so grateful your going the distance. Here is a little sketch from the Slocan River at Springtime (shown above). A taste of home!!" Ron lives with his wife Sara on 45 acres by the Little Slocan River in British Columbia. They have a Summer camp for kids in July that is fun and inspirational, details here: http://www.theartabet.com/rons-art-story/. Ron, Thank you for being in touch and remembering me! I am touched!

Group Show at the Cultch & Opening Night Information

Cultch2015 The Cultch Gallery invites you to the opening of

Deb Chaney, Natalie Reynolds, & Adrian Walker

Wednesday, Apr 8, 2015 - 6pm to 8pm

Deb Chaney Deb Chaney explores the question "where does spirituality meet physicality" in this series of large abstract works. Visually, this is expressed through texture, depth and vibrancy which allows the viewer to have their own journey within the work.

Natalie Reynolds Through the investigation of form and interplay of dark and light, Natalie Reynolds makes reference to the dichotomies of randomness and chaos, vs. balance and renewal in this series of large scale works.

Adrian Walker After years of research and documentation, Adrian Walker has created a series of works that are based on the changes in light and form as the landscape shifts its appearance under the affects of mist, from in and around Port Coquitlam.

The full exhibit runs from Apr 7 to May 2, 2015

Come to the Wednesday night opening for a lively night of art or visit the gallery from 12pm to 6pm Monday to Friday, or 12pm to 4pm on Saturdays. Ring the doorbell to gain access to the gallery.

We deeply appreciate your ongoing enthusiasm and support and we look forward to sharing this evening with you. We hope that you can join us!

Inspiration: in purpose, books and living

LittleInspirationBookCover When I was 18 years old, my first spiritual mentor Leslie Robinson - a brilliant, enlightened, ahead of her time, powerhouse of a woman - asked me; "what is the purpose of your life Deb?". I had no idea what she was talking about! Yesterday after receiving a text message from Leslie expressing how much I inspire her (Thank you !!!)  I'm now clear one thing for sure: I'm here to inspire! Looking back on The Little Inspiration Book, Ideas to Empower Women that I wrote twelve years ago, I'm excited to know where I've been and even more excited about what is around the corner. Stay tuned for more inspiration in many creative forms! http://bookstore.trafford.com/Products/SKU-000149403/The-Little-Inspiration-Book.aspx
